Knowledge Spaces for Online Discovery Learning
نویسنده
چکیده
Constructivist learning environments have been enhanced with emerging digital infrastructures, particularly those based on Internet and Web 2.0 technologies. In this chapter, the impact of these technologies on a constructivist-rooted pedagogy known as discovery learning is discussed in detail. Specifically, the use of knowledge spaces for online discovery learning is explored within the context of case-based learning, incidental learning, learning by exploring/conversing, learning by reflection, and simulationbased learning. This chapter first provides a theoretical rationale for enhancing these approaches and then describes several low cost and free tools that can be used in each of the five areas. Technology implementation and practitioner-oriented examples are provided for each with a particular emphasis on Web 2.0 applications in higher education venues. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-61350-320-1.ch005

The effect of language complexity and group size on knowledge construction: Implications for online learning
This study investigated the effect of language complexity and group size on knowledge construction in two online debates. Knowledge construction was assessed using Gunawardena et al.’s Interaction Analysis Model (1997). Language complexity was determined by dividing the number of unique words by total words. It refers to the lexical variation. The results showed that...

The extended classifier systems (XCS) by producing a set of rules is (classifier) trying to solve learning problems as online. XCS is a rather complex combination of genetic algorithm and reinforcement learning that using genetic algorithm tries to discover the encouraging rules and value them by reinforcement learning. Among the important factors in the performance of XCS is the possibility to...
